Portable Generators
You are sitting in your home watching a rousing round of football with your buddies, or maybe you just sat down to watch one of your favorite movies or have a hot meal prepared by your wife. All of a sudden what happens is that the lights go out, the television and phone don't work, and you're left with an empty plate or black television screen to stare into. Whatever the case, you know that some sort of a blackout or power outage has occurred, but you were in the middle of doing something that you were looking forward to. This is the main reason that people decide to invest in a portable generator. Not only will a portable generator be there when you have had a power failure, but you'll also be able to use it to power those things, like your microwave oven, furnace, refrigerator, television, or even light fixtures.
Having a portable generator for these isolated power failures will not only give you a good product for your money, but you'll be assured that you'll have extra energy stored just for this purpose. One of the things to figure out, however, when looking to buy a portable generator, is how much wattage you'll need to have whatever appliance you want running to be kept with power. For example, while a television might require only 300 watts, a refrigerator requires double that, and a microwave oven requires 700 watts. In addition when purchasing a portable generator, keep in mind that the appliance will usually require two to three times the amount that it takes in order to simply have it running. For example, a microwave oven may only require 700 watts to run, but it might require 1500 to 2100 watts to get it started. All of that has to be kept in mind when considering purchasing a portable generator.
There are a few safety tips that one has to remember about the portable generator also. One is that you should never operate this type of equipment in your house, but use a heavy duty electrical extension plug that can be connected to the appliance possibly somewhere on the outside of your house. Another hint is to never overload the generator. Overloading the generator by forcing it to power too many appliances will not only damage those appliances but will also damage the generator itself. However, purchasing a portable generator should be considered for those times that you are without power, and definitely should be kept in times when you need power in your house!
